Is your child or teen’s struggle to read affecting their self-confidence?

Reading Tutor for
Virginia Families

Our reading tutors can get your student reading fluently and caught up to their peers while instilling a love of reading.

Rather than just practice reading where a student guesses at words based on pictures or context clues, we follow the Science of Reading and use systematic, explicit instruction in phonological skills, phonics and fluency to help your child learn the foundational skills all children need in order to be fluent readers, good spellers and confident students.

Our Reading Program is Designed with Busy Virginia Families in Mind

If your child is noticeably behind their peers in reading, you want them caught up as quickly as possible. We get that.

Rather than just making progress, we want your student to reach grade level and “graduate” quickly, but that requires a reading tutor to work intensely with your child.

For a lot of students, that means 3-4 or even 5 sessions per week for several months.

That’s tricky for many Virginia families.

We’ve learned that most families have really busy schedules and would find it impossible to come in person several times a week. That’s why we developed our online reading program and work with students over Zoom. Parents don't need to sit in traffic, in waiting rooms, and don't face the interruptions to their daily routines of in person tutoring.

_______

"Our second grader was struggling with reading and was assessed as dyslexic.  We started working with Kids Up Reading and 6 months later her reading, spelling and confidence levels have all improved dramatically."

Reading tutoring over Zoom? Really?

Yes, really!

We know that a lot of kids and families hated online learning during the pandemic, but this is different.

We created this program specifically for Zoom, and our 1-on-1 sessions are effective and engaging.  Read more about it HERE.

Our Reading Tutors incorporate fun and interactive activities like:

  • Word games (aka phonological exercises)

  • Reading real and nonsense words on the Orton-Gillingham Blending Board

  • Solving magic squares and

  • Reading graphic novels like the Diary of a Pug and Cat Kid Comic Club series

______

"I just wanted to share with you that Sam [who worked with Kids Up Reading Coaches 2 years ago] is doing extremely well with his reading at school. Today we got his reading scores, and he is in the 90th percentile."
